How it works

Your first class, sorted

Everything a first-timer wants to know: what to wear, what happens when you walk in, how a class runs — and the five-minute set-up on your phone.

Before you come

Getting ready

No experience, no fitness test, no Gi. Just this.

What to wear

Shorts and a shirt, or a rashguard if you have one. No Gi needed. Something without zips or pockets is comfiest.

What to bring

A water bottle, and thongs or slides for walking around off the mat.

Trim your nails

Fingers and toes, short and clean — it protects you and your partners.

Leave the jewellery

Rings, earrings and watches are best left in your bag while you train.

Eat light

A small meal 1–2 hours before is perfect. Training on a full stomach isn't fun.

Book a beginners class

It's the best first step, and the coach knows a newcomer is coming.

On the day

When you arrive

  1. 1

    Get there 10–15 minutes early

Time to change, settle in and meet the coach before class starts.

  2. 2

Scan your QR at the door

Hold the pass on your phone up to the scanner and the door opens. Once your photo is set up, the door knows your face.

  3. 3

    Shoes off before the mat

Shoes stay at the edge of the mat — slides make the walk to the bathroom easy.

  4. 4

    Say hi to the coach

Let them know about any injuries. You'll be paired with someone experienced who'll look after you.

60 minutes

How a class runs

Every adult class follows the same shape, so you always know what's next.

  1. Warm-up~10 min

Movement drills that get you ready for grappling — easy to follow on day one.

  2. Technique~20 min

The coach shows a move or two, step by step, then breaks it down.

  3. Drilling~15 min

You practise the technique with a partner, slowly and with no resistance.

  4. Sparring~15 min

Live rounds at your own pace. In your first week you can sit out or go light — just let the coach know.

On the mat

Looking after each other

How we look after each other on the mat.

Tap early, tap often

Tap your partner (or the mat) whenever something feels uncomfortable. Tapping is how everyone learns.

Clean gear, every session

Fresh clothes each class and any cuts covered. Feeling crook? Rest up and come back when you're better.

Look after your partner

Go at a pace that suits them. Everyone was new once.

After class

Then what?

Ask anything

Coaches and members hang around after class — this is a great time for questions.

Book your next class

Your trial is a full week of unlimited classes. Book the next one in the app before you leave.

Expect to be a little sore

Totally normal for the first week or two. It fades fast as you keep coming.

Bringing the kids? Kids classes are 50 minutes and parents are welcome to stay and watch. How kids sign up →

5 minutes, on your phone

Set up before you walk in

Do this once and the door knows you when you arrive — no forms at the desk.

  1. 1

    Claim your trial week

    1 min

Tap Claim, choose who's training — you, your kids, or both — and add your name, mobile and email.

  2. 2

    Pick your first class

    30 sec

Tap a class on the timetable — beginners classes are the best first step. Not sure yet? Skip it and pick later.

  3. 3

    Pay $20 per person

    1 min

One payment covers everyone training. That's a full week of unlimited classes — no contract, nothing auto-renews into a membership.

  4. 4

Sign the waiver and add a photo

    1 min

An emergency contact, anything we should know medically, one tick on the waiver, then a clear selfie. Our front door recognises you by face; your QR pass works until then.

  5. 5

Save Roll Call to your phone and walk in

    1 min

Your pass, your bookings and the timetable live there. Arrive 10–15 minutes early in shorts and a shirt — no Gi needed.

Step 5, up close

Put Roll Call on your home screen

It works like an app: your door pass, your bookings and the timetable, one tap away. Our iPhone app is on its way — until then, this is the same thing.

Questions

Signing up

Do I have to book a class, or can I just turn up?+

Booking keeps your spot and lets the coach know a newcomer is coming — so please book. You need your trial set up first; then booking is one tap.

What happens after my trial week?+

Nothing automatic. Your trial simply ends. If you loved it, pick a membership in the app or at the desk — we'll never sign you up without asking.

I don't want to use face recognition.+

That's fine — your QR pass opens the door too. Ask at the desk and we'll set it up that way.

I'm stuck halfway through signing up.+

Start again with the same mobile number — we'll recognise you, so nothing is doubled up. Or call us and we'll finish it with you.

Trial week — $20

A full week of unlimited classes, usually $59. Set it all up on your phone in five minutes — the door knows you when you arrive.

Five minutes on your phone — see how it works. Usually $59.
